In the company’s words, Alpina builds fine automobiles for the connoisseur. These are big-torque BMWs with automatic transmissions, more of a luxury bent than BMW’s own high-performance M cars.

The first thing one of these connoisseurs might notice on the Alpina B7”it amounts to a hot-rodded 7-series”are the mammoth, concept-car-worthy 21-inch, 20-spoke BBS wheels. Am I dreaming? Even as an automotive writer used to flying around the world in first-class, I have to admit the back seat of the 604-hp Maybach 62S is a pretty nice way to travel. I’m practically lying down in a gently massaging, leather-lined recliner that La-Z-Boy would eat its heart out for. I’m able to fully stretch my six-foot-two frame, and my feet are up. (more…)

The 2007 Volvo XC90 is a 4-door, up to 7-passenger luxury sport-utility, available in 3 trims, ranging from the 3.2 to the V8 Sport.

Upon introduction, the 3.2 is equipped with a standard 3.2-liter, I6, 235-horsepower engine that achieves 17-mpg in the city and 22-mpg on the highway. The V8 Sport is equipped with a standard 4.4-liter, V8, 311-horsepower engine that achieves 15-mpg in the city and 20-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
