Test 2009 Lincoln MKS AWD

BY PATRICK BEDARD, PHOTOGRAPHY BY TOM DREW

Dearborn’s dreamboat was the MKR, a 2007 concept with an unforgettable face, warming the crowd for this near-luxury MKS.

To your list of things that will never happen, you can add one more: The hot-blooded pilotes of this staff will never rank this new Lincoln above a BMW, any BMW, in a comparison test. But the Supreme Court is not the only enclave of divided opinions; the contrarians among us think Ford has something going on here. (more…)

2007 BMW Alpina B7 - Road Tests

BY DAVE VANDERWERP, PHOTOGRAPHY BY AARON KILEY

Connoisseurs wanted: BMW blesses Alpina’s super 7-series for the U.S.

In the company’s words, Alpina builds fine automobiles for the connoisseur. These are big-torque BMWs with automatic transmissions, more of a luxury bent than BMW’s own high-performance M cars.

The first thing one of these connoisseurs might notice on the Alpina B7”it amounts to a hot-rodded 7-series”are the mammoth, concept-car-worthy 21-inch, 20-spoke BBS wheels. That’s because they are simply spectacular to behold. And that’s before they start moving; then the spokes blend together in an envy-inducing blur. Splendid. (more…)

Review 2007 Maybach 62S

BY JUERGEN ZOELLTER, PHOTOGRAPHY BY DIETER REBMANN

Power for the powerful. All the accoutrements of first-class, minus the bathroom.

Am I dreaming? Even as an automotive writer used to flying around the world in first-class, I have to admit the back seat of the 604-hp Maybach 62S is a pretty nice way to travel. I’m practically lying down in a gently massaging, leather-lined recliner that La-Z-Boy would eat its heart out for. I’m able to fully stretch my six-foot-two frame, and my feet are up. (more…)

Road Tests 2007 Ferrari 599GTB Fiorano

BY AARON ROBINSON, PHOTOGRAPHY BY MORGAN SEGAL

The manual diligently advises drivers to avoid sharp and frequent accelerations and to upshift at only 2/3rds of the speed permitted for each gear or, say, a modest 114 mph in fifth. (more…)

First Drive 2008 Buick Enclave

BY ALISA PRIDDLE

This full-size luxury crossover could keep the brand from extinction, increasing the two-sedan portfolio by a whopping one-third.

It’s not easy being the third child, no matter how much attention you get. And it’s not easy entering life knowing you will be the sales runt of the litter. But that is the lot of the 2008 Buick Enclave, and we would argue, after some seat time, that none of that really matters because General Motors may have saved the best of its trio of full-size crossovers for last.
